of the Royal Armoury

The Library of the Royal Armoury is a public special library which contains approx. 40.000 books and c. 100 serial publications.

 

The library welcomes scholars and member of the public during opening hours or other hours by appointment.

Duke William IV:s Tournament Book
Tournament Book of 1545.
The book describes Duke William IV of Bavaria´s (1493-1550) tournaments and chivalrous contest of his youth, between 1510 and 1524. Hans Schenckh, who was the Duke´s armourer but also served as herald at the tournaments, wrote the text. The illuminations were done by the court painter Hans Ostendorfer II.
